Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – Four members of a local peace committee were shot dead by armed assailants on Tuesday in Bannu district, police confirmed.

The attack occurred in the Gulbadin Landi Dak area, where the victims were traveling in the same vehicle when gunmen opened fire, according to a senior district police official. Two of the victims have been identified as a father and son. All four died on the spot.

Local sources said the peace committee members had been taking up arms in self-defense against militants, heightening tensions in the area.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident, though it is too early to determine if the attack qualifies as terrorism, the official added.

Attacks on peace committee members in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have increased in recent months. In November 2025, seven people were killed when a peace committee office in Bannu was targeted. Similarly, in October 2025, a member of a tribal peace committee was killed in a clash with militants in the Ahmadzai area of Bannu.

The rising violence underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by local communities and peace committees in the region.
