Bahrain FM Congratulates Dar on Makkah Defence Pact, Signals Pakistan Visit | ChatZyr

ISLAMABAD: Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani has congratulated Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, while expressing his intention to visit Pakistan in the near future.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the two foreign ministers spoke by phone on Monday and discussed the trilateral defence agreement and regional developments.
The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement was signed on August 7 by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. Under the pact, an armed attack against any one of the three countries is to be treated as an attack against all three, establishing a framework for collective defence and deterrence.
During the conversation, Al Zayani congratulated Dar on the agreement and conveyed his desire to visit Pakistan. Dar welcomed the proposed visit and appreciated the Bahraini foreign minister’s remarks.
The Foreign Office said Dar also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred means of promoting peace and stability in the region and beyond.
Pakistan has described the agreement as defensive in nature. Dar previously said the framework could also be open to other countries in the region that are prepared to uphold its fundamental principles.
The agreement has drawn attention across the Muslim world, with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation describing it as an important strategic step. Bahrain, Kuwait and Somalia are among the countries that have welcomed the development, while Iran has highlighted the importance of regional security mechanisms based on cooperation among regional states.
Why it matters: Bahrain’s response and the expected visit by its foreign minister come as Pakistan seeks closer diplomatic and strategic coordination with Gulf and regional partners following the new defence framework.
