CM Murad Approves Rs21.5bn for Karachi Infrastructure, Rs13bn Allocated for Road Repairs
Karachi, January 23, 2026 — Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved a Rs21.53 billion infrastructure development package for Karachi, with Rs13 billion earmarked exclusively for improving and rehabilitating the city’s damaged road network.
The approval was granted during a high-level meeting at CM House, attended by Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, and senior officials from the Local Government Department and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
According to officials present at the meeting, the road rehabilitation funds will be distributed among 24 Town Municipal Corporations (TMCs). A total of 409 roads across Karachi’s seven districts have been identified, of which 400 will undergo patchwork repairs, while nine severely damaged roads will be fully reconstructed.
The remaining Rs8.53 billion will be utilized for related infrastructure upgrades, including water supply improvements, sewerage rehabilitation, and streetlight installations, aimed at enhancing public safety and service delivery. CM Murad Ali Shah directed authorities to ensure swift execution, quality standards, and transparent utilization of funds.
Officials were also instructed to regularly report progress and avoid delays that have historically affected Karachi’s development projects.
Why it matters now: With Karachi facing worsening road conditions that disrupt daily commuting and economic activity, this allocation represents one of the largest focused provincial interventions to restore urban mobility and public infrastructure.
