Denmark Moves Quickly to Calm Rising Tensions

Trump’s comments have deeply unsettled Denmark and strained relations across the Nato alliance. Copenhagen insists it has taken Arctic security seriously for years, investing nearly $14 billion to strengthen its military capabilities in the region.

Despite this, Trump has dismissed Denmark’s efforts as inadequate, mocking recent measures as little more than “two dogsleds”.

In response to the escalating rhetoric, Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen confirmed that Denmark was boosting its military presence in Greenland with immediate effect. The defence ministry announced new exercises involving aircraft, naval vessels, and ground forces, with Swedish officers also joining at Denmark’s request.

Poulsen said Denmark was working closely with Nato allies to reassure Washington while protecting its sovereignty.
