Millions of Muslims across Pakistan and around the world celebrated Eid-ul-Adha today with special prayers, animal sacrifices, family gatherings and acts of charity, marking one of the holiest occasions in Islam.
From the early hours of the morning, worshippers gathered at mosques and Eidgahs in cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar to offer Eid prayers and listen to sermons focused on sacrifice, compassion and unity within the Muslim Ummah.
Eid-ul-Adha, commonly known as Bakra Eid, commemorates the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command. Across Pakistan, streets, homes and markets reflected the festive atmosphere as families prepared traditional meals and hosted gatherings throughout the day. Cattle markets remained active until late last night as many citizens completed last-minute animal purchases ahead of Eid prayers.
Authorities in major cities implemented special security, traffic and sanitation plans to manage crowds and ensure cleanliness during the three-day festival. Religious scholars also urged citizens to avoid waste, maintain hygiene and increase charitable giving amid ongoing economic challenges affecting vulnerable communities.
Retail businesses, food vendors and transport services experienced a major rise in activity during the Eid period, providing a seasonal boost to local economic activity.
The festival also coincides with the completion of Hajj rituals in Makkah, linking Muslim communities worldwide in a shared spiritual observance.
