The United States and Pakistan have moved to deepen bilateral security cooperation after FBI Director Kash Patel welcomed Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to FBI headquarters in Washington for high-level talks on counterterrorism, cybercrime investigations, and law enforcement collaboration.
Patel described the meeting as an honour in a post on his official X account, thanking Pakistan for its continued support in protecting US interests across the region. He called the relationship between the two countries a "critical partnership" and highlighted the importance of ongoing cooperation.
According to Patel, both sides held discussions on expanding specialised training, sharing resources, and strengthening joint efforts to combat terrorism financing and enhance cyber investigations both domestically and internationally.
Naqvi arrived in Washington after representing Pakistan at the Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit in New York, where he also met with several regional and international officials on the sidelines of the event.
The latest engagement builds on previous discussions between the two officials. During a meeting in Washington in September 2025, Naqvi said both sides explored cooperation on illegal immigration, counterterrorism, and law enforcement officer exchange programmes, describing Patel as a strong partner committed to closer bilateral collaboration.
The meeting underscores continuing efforts by Pakistan and the United States to strengthen cooperation against evolving security threats, including cybercrime, terrorism financing, and transnational criminal networks.
Why it matters: Enhanced cooperation between the FBI and Pakistan's Interior Ministry could improve intelligence sharing, investigative capabilities, and joint responses to regional and global security challenges.
