Heavy Snowfall Hits Balochistan, KP and Northern Regions, Disrupting Daily Life

Heavy snowfall has affected Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and several northern parts of Pakistan over the past two days, causing disruptions to road travel, electricity supply, and routine activities in multiple districts.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed that a strong western weather system triggered snowfall and cold conditions from Tuesday night onward, impacting areas such as Quetta, Ziarat, Kalat, Chaman, Swat, Upper Dir, Chitral, and parts of Gilgit-Baltistan. PMD officials said temperatures dropped sharply, with some regions recording below-freezing conditions.

Local authorities reported that key highways and link roads were temporarily closed due to snow accumulation and reduced visibility, particularly in hilly terrain. A senior official from the KP Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said snow-clearing operations were underway and travelers were advised to avoid unnecessary journeys.

In Balochistan, district administrations confirmed intermittent power outages and delays in transport services, while emergency teams remained on alert to assist stranded commuters. Residents in remote areas also reported difficulties accessing basic supplies.

The PMD forecast indicates that cold weather will persist in most affected regions over the next 24 hours, though snowfall intensity is expected to ease gradually.
