ISLAMABAD: Interpol has issued Red Notices for Bahria Town founder Malik Riaz and his son Ali Riaz, according to National Accountability Bureau Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, with the NAB chief confirming that the international alert has been circulated to member countries, seeking cooperation in locating and potentially extraditing the two individuals in connection with ongoing corruption investigations.

A Red Notice issued by Interpol is not an arrest warrant but a request to law enforcement agencies worldwide to identify and provisionally detain individuals pending legal proceedings.

Officials said the move marks a significant escalation in NAB’s efforts to pursue high-profile accountability cases beyond Pakistan’s borders. The case is linked to alleged financial irregularities and property-related investigations involving Bahria Town projects.

No immediate response was available from Malik Riaz or his legal representatives at the time of publication.

Legal experts note that while Red Notices increase international pressure, actual extradition depends on bilateral agreements and judicial processes in the countries where the individuals may be located.

Why it matters now: The development signals a major step in Pakistan’s accountability drive, with potential implications for high-value real estate projects, investor confidence, and cross-border legal cooperation.
