Iran on Monday defended the demands outlined in its latest response to a United States peace proposal after U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly dismissed Tehran’s position as “totally unacceptable,” escalating tensions over ongoing regional negotiations.
Speaking during a weekly press briefing in Tehran, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said Iran had not requested any extraordinary concessions from Washington and insisted the country was only seeking its “legitimate rights.”
According to Baqaei, Iran’s response included demands for an end to the war across the region, the lifting of what Tehran described as the U.S. blockade and “piracy” targeting Iranian ports, and the release of frozen Iranian assets held in foreign banks for years.
“We did not demand any concessions. The only thing we demanded was Iran’s legitimate rights,” Baqaei stated during the briefing.
The exchange highlights deepening mistrust between Washington and Tehran despite renewed international pressure for diplomacy and regional de-escalation efforts.
