KARACHI: A couple who had married by mutual consent was shot dead in an alleged honour killing in Machar Colony, Karachi, on Wednesday. Police said the woman’s father opened fire while the couple was asleep, killing the husband on the spot and critically injuring his daughter, who later died at Civil Hospital Karachi.
According to Docks police, the incident occurred near Ayesha Masjid, where the couple had been living in a rented house with their four-month-old daughter. South DIG Syed Asad Raza confirmed the suspect fled after the attack, and four bullet casings were recovered from the crime scene. An investigation is underway.
The incident highlights the continued rise in honour killings in Pakistan, particularly in Sindh, with HRCP data reporting 346 victims nationwide from January to November 2024.
