Netanyahu Meets Trump in Florida for High-Level Talks on Gaza Ceasefire and Iran Tensions

Palm Beach, Florida — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived Monday at US President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence for critical talks focused on the Gaza ceasefire and rising tensions with Iran, as Washington presses for progress on the next phase of the truce.

The meeting comes as the Gaza peace process enters a fragile stage, with US officials increasingly concerned that both Israel and Hamas are delaying implementation of the second phase of the agreement.

Trump Presses for Gaza Truce Progress

President Trump is expected to urge Netanyahu to move forward with the next stage of his Gaza truce plan, which includes Israeli troop withdrawals, governance reforms, and international stabilization measures.

According to reports, Trump is eager to announce — as early as January — the creation of a Palestinian technocratic authority for Gaza, alongside the deployment of an international stabilization force.

This marks the fifth meeting between Trump and Netanyahu in the United States this year, underscoring the intensity of US-Israel diplomatic engagement amid regional instability.

Iran Likely to Dominate Talks

Netanyahu is also expected to push Iran to the forefront of discussions, amid reports he will seek stronger US action against Iran’s nuclear and missile programs.

Israeli officials have expressed concern that Iran is rebuilding its ballistic missile capabilities following clashes earlier this year. Netanyahu is expected to frame Iran as a growing threat not only to the Middle East, but also to US security interests.

Iran has rejected these claims, calling them a “psychological operation”, and warned that renewed aggression would provoke a strong response.

Meetings With US Officials Ahead of Trump Talks

Before meeting Trump, Netanyahu held discussions in Florida with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, according to his office.

Israeli government spokeswoman Shosh Bedrosian said Netanyahu would stress the need to ensure Hamas is disarmed and Gaza demilitarized during the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.

However, Hamas’s armed wing reiterated Monday that it would not surrender its weapons, one of the key obstacles to advancing negotiations.

Ceasefire Phase Two Faces Obstacles

The first phase of the Gaza ceasefire, brokered in October, required Hamas to release remaining hostages taken during the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel. The group has returned all living captives and most of the remains of those who died.

Under the proposed second phase, Israel would withdraw from Gaza positions, while Hamas would disarm. A temporary governing authority would manage the territory, supported by an international force.

Both sides have accused each other of repeated ceasefire violations, raising doubts about the deal’s durability.

Growing Frustration in Washington

US media reports suggest senior White House officials are increasingly frustrated with what they see as Netanyahu’s reluctance to advance the peace process.

“There are more signs that the American administration is growing impatient with Netanyahu,” said Yossi Mekelberg, a Middle East analyst at Chatham House.

Disagreements between Washington and Jerusalem have widened in recent months over Israel’s continued military actions in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, as well as over strategy toward Iran.

Broader Diplomatic Push

Netanyahu’s visit follows a weekend of intense diplomacy, during which Trump hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Palm Beach to discuss efforts to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Despite challenges, Trump has described the Gaza ceasefire as one of the major foreign-policy achievements of his current term and is seeking to maintain momentum amid regional and global tensions.
