OIC Backs Pakistan-Saudi-Türkiye Defence Pact as ‘Important Strategic Step’ | ChatZyr

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has welcomed the new joint defence agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, describing it as an important step toward strengthening regional security and cooperation.
OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha expressed strong support for the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, saying the pact reflects the three countries’ commitment to closer security cooperation and greater solidarity among OIC member states.
The agreement was signed in Makkah on August 7 during the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit for Joint Defence, attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the summit and the participation of the three leaders.
Under the agreement, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have committed to strengthening collective defence and security cooperation. The pact provides for an attack against one of the three countries to be treated as an attack against all three.
Taha said the agreement could serve as a pillar for security and stability in the region and the wider Muslim world. He also praised the leadership and efforts that led to the agreement.
The development builds on Pakistan and Saudi Arabia’s existing defence relationship. The two countries had previously agreed on a strategic mutual defence framework, while the new trilateral arrangement brings Türkiye into a broader security partnership.
Saudi officials have clarified that the new agreement does not replace existing bilateral or multilateral defence arrangements.
Türkiye has also stressed that the pact is not directed against any particular country and remains open to other friendly nations committed to peace.
The agreement comes as security tensions continue across the wider Middle East, giving the new partnership added regional significance. However, discussions on closer defence cooperation among the three countries had begun before the latest escalation in regional tensions.
Bahrain and Somalia have also welcomed the agreement, highlighting its potential contribution to collective security and regional stability.
For Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, the pact represents a significant expansion of defence coordination and could shape future security cooperation across the region.
