Pakistan Condemns Houthi Red Sea Attack That Killed Three Nationals | ChatZyr

Pakistan has condemned a Houthi attack on the commercial vessel Tihamah in the Red Sea that killed four crew members, including three Pakistani nationals, as Islamabad moved to secure the repatriation of the victims and assist an injured Pakistani.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Pakistan was in contact with Saudi authorities and Yemen’s internationally recognised government to establish further details about the incident.

Dar expressed condolences to the families of the Pakistani victims and strongly condemned the attack, saying assaults on commercial vessels endanger civilian lives, threaten maritime security and undermine freedom of navigation.

Three Pakistanis among those killed

The Tihamah came under attack in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a crucial maritime passage linking the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.

According to reports from Yemeni authorities and Reuters, four crew members were killed in the initial attack, including three Pakistanis and one Indonesian. The vessel was also damaged and caught fire. Two Yemeni rescuers were later killed during the rescue operation.

Pakistan has also received a report that another Pakistani national was injured.

Dar directed Pakistan’s embassy in Riyadh to coordinate with the relevant authorities and pursue arrangements for the retrieval and repatriation of the deceased Pakistanis, while ensuring assistance for the injured national.

Pakistan warns over maritime security

The attack comes after Pakistan repeatedly warned that threats to commercial shipping and Pakistani maritime interests in the Red Sea would be treated as a serious national security concern.

In July, Pakistan condemned Houthi threats against Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping, stressing the importance of freedom of navigation and international maritime security. Islamabad also said it reserved the right to take necessary measures in self-defence if Pakistani maritime interests were targeted.

The latest attack adds to growing security concerns surrounding one of the world's most important shipping corridors.

Regional shipping faces renewed risks

The Bab el-Mandeb Strait is a critical route for international trade, connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and providing access to the Suez Canal.

The latest violence comes amid wider regional tensions and follows a series of threats and attacks affecting commercial shipping around the Red Sea and Gulf of Oman.

For Pakistan, the incident has an immediate human cost, with three nationals among those killed, while also raising fresh concerns over the safety of Pakistani seafarers and commercial vessels operating in the region.
