Pakistan Information Minister Accuses PTI of ‘Character Assassination’ and Fueling Politics of Hatred

Lahore, Pakistan – Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of promoting “character assassination and politics of hatred” across the country. He further blamed the opposition party for allegedly “conspiring to mislead the youth generation.”

Speaking at a book launch ceremony in Lahore, Tarar highlighted a stark contrast between the political culture of PML-N under Nawaz Sharif and PTI’s practices. “There had been a tradition of decency and respect in Pakistan’s politics before the PTI. PML-N President Nawaz Sharif promoted tolerance, while PTI promoted divisive politics and character attacks,” he said.

Recalling the 2013 general elections, Tarar noted that when PTI founder Imran Khan suffered an injury after falling from a crane, Nawaz Sharif canceled public rallies as a “gesture of sympathy,” emphasizing the political civility under PML-N.

He further criticized PTI’s governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) over the past 12 years, claiming that no hospital in KP matches Lahore’s Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre (PKLI). According to the minister, PTI’s “politics of hatred and division” had hindered development in the province.

Tarar also accused PTI of causing “severe damage” to Pakistan’s economy and said that the party’s slogan of “change” had brought destruction rather than progress. He emphasized that international institutions are now recognizing economic improvements under PML-N leadership.

Highlighting Nawaz Sharif’s development agenda, the minister stated: “The Sharif family has played a vital role in promoting industrial growth and public welfare in Pakistan. Every major development project bears the hallmark of Nawaz’s leadership, reflecting his commitment to public service.”

According to Tarar, Pakistan’s economy has now regained stability thanks to the initiatives led by the Sharif brothers, marking a period of economic recovery, industrial development, and public welfare projects.
