Pakistan, Iran Push to Remove Trade Barriers as Gabd-Rimdan Border Congestion Hurts Commerce | ChatZyr

QUETTA: Pakistan and Iran have agreed to work towards removing trade barriers and improving border facilities after business leaders warned that congestion at the Gabd-Rimdan border crossing is slowing cross-border commerce and increasing costs for traders.
Speaking at a meeting with office-bearers of the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) and members of the business community, Iran's Consul General in Quetta, Mohammad Karimi Todashki, said both countries should take effective measures to eliminate obstacles affecting bilateral trade.
"Iran is fully committed to strengthening trade relations with Pakistan and will extend every possible cooperation to resolve the issues faced by the business community," the consul general said.
Todashki added that Iran regarded the concerns of Balochistan's business community as a shared priority. He said discussions were underway with relevant authorities to improve facilities at the Gabd-Rimdan border crossing and other trade routes, simplify customs procedures and speed up the movement of goods.
During the meeting, QCCI President Haji Muhammad Ayub Mariani urged authorities to keep the Gabd-Rimdan border crossing open 24 hours a day, saying uninterrupted operations would reduce delays, lower transportation costs and facilitate smoother imports and exports.
Mariani said hundreds of commercial vehicles pass through the border crossing every day, creating congestion that disrupts trade and results in financial losses for businesses.
Business representatives said improved infrastructure, streamlined customs procedures and extended operating hours could significantly strengthen bilateral trade and support economic growth in the border region.
