Pakistan Navy Successfully Tests Surface-to-Air Missile in North Arabian Sea

The Pakistan Navy successfully conducted a comprehensive naval exercise in the North Arabian Sea, during which it test-fired a surface-to-air missile, according to a statement released on Saturday by the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The exercise highlighted the operational readiness and combat preparedness of the Pakistan Navy, in line with the evolving requirements of modern naval warfare. ISPR said the drills showcased both conventional and unmanned naval capabilities.

Successful LY-80 (N) Missile Test

As part of the exercise, the Pakistan Navy successfully fired the LY-80 (N) surface-to-air missile from a vertical launching system (VLS) at an extended range. The missile accurately engaged and neutralised an aerial target, validating the long-range air defence capability of the Navy’s modern systems.

According to ISPR, the successful missile test demonstrated the Pakistan Navy’s robust maritime air defence posture and its ability to counter aerial threats at sea.

Precision Strike and Unmanned Systems

The naval drills also included the successful use of loitering munitions, which precisely targeted and destroyed surface targets, reflecting the Navy’s advanced precision-strike capability.

In a major technological milestone, the Pakistan Navy conducted open-sea trials of an Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV). ISPR described this as a significant leap in autonomous naval technology, noting that the platform demonstrated high-speed performance, extreme manoeuvrability, precision navigation, and strong weather resilience.

The unmanned surface vessel was termed a low-risk, high-impact solution, capable of operating as a stealthy tactical interceptor in future naval operations.

Leadership Commends Performance

The Commander Pakistan Fleet witnessed the exercise, which showcased the Navy’s ability to employ advanced weapons and unmanned systems effectively. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf praised the officers and personnel for their professionalism and operational competence.

He reaffirmed the Pakistan Navy’s commitment to ensuring the seaward defence of Pakistan and safeguarding national maritime interests under all circumstances.
