Pakistan Urges Stronger Action on Women's Empowerment at OIC Ministerial Conference | ChatZyr

Pakistan on Monday urged Muslim nations to strengthen cooperation on women's empowerment during the 9th Ministerial Conference on Women of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Islamabad, with Federal Law and Human Rights Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar calling for greater participation from men and boys in achieving lasting gender equality.
The two-day conference brought together representatives from 57 OIC member states to discuss policies aimed at expanding opportunities for women and promoting inclusive development across the Islamic world.
Addressing delegates, Tarar said lasting progress requires shared responsibility across society.
"Lasting progress cannot be achieved by women alone; real and sustainable change requires the active engagement of men and boys as partners in promoting equality, respect and shared responsibility," he said.
The minister reaffirmed that women's empowerment remains a national priority for Pakistan, supported by constitutional protections and government initiatives, including the National Gender Policy Framework, Vision 2025, and the Prime Minister's Women Empowerment Package. These programmes focus on expanding women's leadership, increasing financial inclusion, encouraging entrepreneurship, improving access to justice and narrowing the digital divide.
Tarar also stressed that "no nation can fully realise its potential while half of its population is denied equal opportunity to learn, work, innovate and lead." He urged OIC member states to strengthen institutional cooperation, exchange successful policy experiences and ensure that digital transformation becomes a tool for inclusion rather than another barrier.
As chair of the conference, Pakistan said it views its role as an opportunity to build consensus and encourage practical cooperation rather than simply adopt declarations. Officials expressed hope that the meeting would produce lasting initiatives that improve opportunities for women throughout the Islamic world.
