Pakistan, US Deepen Counterterrorism Partnership, Renew Joint Resolve Against TTP, ISIS-K and Al Qaeda

WASHINGTON: Pakistan and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding counterterrorism cooperation after holding the fourth Pakistan-US Counterterrorism Dialogue in Washington, where both countries pledged closer coordination against regional militant threats.
The dialogue was co-chaired by US Coordinator for Counterterrorism Ambassador Gregory LoGerfo and Pakistan's Special Secretary Ambassador Nabeel Munir, according to a joint statement issued after the meeting.
Officials reviewed the evolving regional security landscape, exchanged assessments on emerging terrorist threats, and discussed measures to strengthen intelligence cooperation, border security, and efforts to dismantle terrorist financing and facilitation networks.
Both governments specifically identified ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K), Al Qaeda, Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) as major threats to regional peace and stability, reaffirming their shared determination to counter these groups.
Pakistan's Foreign Office said the two sides also held extensive discussions on global and regional terrorism challenges and agreed to enhance cooperation through bilateral engagement and multilateral forums.
The renewed dialogue reflects improving ties between Islamabad and Washington following years of strained relations after the 2021 US withdrawal from Afghanistan. Alongside security cooperation, both countries have expanded engagement in trade, investment, climate initiatives, and regional stability.
The discussions come as Pakistan continues to face an escalating security challenge. According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, 205 people, including 112 security personnel, were killed in July 2026, making it the deadliest month of the year.
