Security Forces Begin Intensive Clearance Operation in Bannu’s Domel Tehsil

Security forces on Thursday launched a large-scale counterterrorism operation in Domel tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district, intensifying efforts to dismantle militant hideouts in an area that has witnessed repeated security incidents in recent months.

Officials said the operation is focused on the Sperka and Kotka Akbar Ali Khan localities, where intelligence reports pointed to militant presence. Security forces carried out multiple precision strikes using quadcopters, followed by coordinated ground movement. A heavy exchange of fire continued as troops advanced to clear targeted zones.

To maintain control, authorities deployed round-the-clock drone and helicopter surveillance, while the area was fully cordoned off to prevent militant escape. A senior security official said the objective is to clear the area, neutralize threats, and restore lasting law and order.

Domel, a densely populated tehsil in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is home to largely Pashtun tribal communities whose livelihoods depend on trade, agriculture, and cross-district movement. In recent years, repeated violence has disrupted daily life, fueling growing public demand for stability and peace.

Local elders and community representatives in Bannu have consistently expressed support for security forces and law enforcement agencies, stressing that militancy has harmed ordinary citizens more than anyone else. Jirgas and peace committees in the district have repeatedly called for cooperation with authorities to help eliminate militant networks and prevent their return.

Politically, residents of Bannu and Domel have traditionally supported mainstream political parties, prioritizing governance, security, and development over extremist narratives. Analysts say this public stance has strengthened the resolve of law enforcement agencies conducting intelligence-based operations across the district.
