Three terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan, according to Pakistani state media.
Radio Pakistan reported on Monday that security forces conducted the operation in the Dera Ismail Khan area. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces following the operation.
The operation came a day after security forces reported killing eight terrorists in another intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan. According to security sources cited by state media, three commanders were among those killed, while arms, ammunition and foreign currency were recovered.
The latest developments come amid continued counter terrorism operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where militant activity has remained a significant security challenge.
According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, KP recorded 54 militant attacks in August, compared with 36 in July, marking a 50 per cent increase. The province recorded 44 fatalities and 70 injuries from militant attacks during the month.
Dera Ismail Khan and other southern districts of KP have remained among the areas facing persistent militant activity, prompting continued intelligence-led operations by security agencies.
The latest operation adds to a series of counter terrorism actions reported by Pakistani authorities as the country continues efforts to disrupt militant networks.
