Six foreign women, most of them American, have filed legal complaints in France accusing former Elite Model Management executive Gerald Marie of rape and human trafficking over alleged incidents dating back to the 1980s and 1990s.

The complaints were submitted in Paris on Wednesday and involve women who are now between their mid-40s and 60s. Two of the complainants have come forward publicly for the first time, while one alleges she was a minor when the alleged abuse occurred.

According to the legal complaint, Marie, who formerly headed Elite's European operations, is accused of using his position of authority and influence within the modelling industry over several decades to obtain forced sexual relations with young women. The filing also alleges that some of the victims were underage at the time of the alleged incidents.

Marie, now in his mid-70s, previously oversaw Elite's European business during a period when the agency represented internationally renowned supermodels, including Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, and Cindy Crawford.

The latest complaints add to previous allegations that have been made against Marie in recent years, bringing renewed attention to claims of abuse of power within the fashion industry. French judicial authorities are expected to examine the new complaints in accordance with the country's legal process.

No immediate response from Marie or his legal representatives was publicly available following the filing of the latest complaints.

Why it matters: The case highlights continued efforts by alleged survivors to pursue legal action over historical sexual abuse claims while renewing scrutiny of accountability and abuse of power within the global fashion industry.
